4 Ways to Get New Customers in Your Small Business

I’ve been seeing several posts from small business owners- telling people in their community to support small business.

Yes, absolutely- support small businesses in your community- 100%. I believe the healing of any economy happens in our own community, because we can’t control things where we don’t reside.

As a small business owner going on 18 years... I get it, owning a small business is hands down one of the hardest things I have ever done, and will ever do. It's spiritual, physical, and emotional- but this is a path you choose- it's not for everyone, but you chose it.

Small business owners have to take responsibility, and do a better job if they want to win more business- that is getting exported online, to the closest metropolitan area, or the next town or state over.

4 Areas Every Small Business Owner can improve on:

1. Providing jobs, and being world class leaders in their communities.

>>>Stop saying nobody wants to work, the fact is, nobody may want to work for you. Plenty of people are tirelessly looking for jobs- and are eager to work for a someone with a vision, a mission, a purpose, a plan, and willing to pay a livable wage.

2. Marketing

>>>You may have a fancy sign on Main Street, that people who drive by may never actually see... so there are still more people in your community who don’t know you exist, let alone that your business provides a service or products they have yet to fall in love with.

>>> If you can market are social media- are you? Do you donate to local charities, support local teams, and events? Hosting special sales and events? Promoting all your products, services, new and old? Are you utilizing at least 3 streams of leads? Growing an email list or text list?

3. Do better business

>>> if you can’t beat pricing - you have to win in service with a smile, face and name recognition, honesty, kindness, and followup. The customer isn’t always right, but neither are you. Relationships, experience and service will always win.

4. Spruce up the joint

>>> Small businesses, need to update and improve their stores, facilities and ways of doing business to keep up with the times, even in small towns. It’s respect to your business, your customers, and your community. People want to do business where there is an experience every time they walk in the door. If your business stinks, is messy, or hasn’t been updated since the 80’s don’t be surprised if it’s hard to demand higher prices, or attract new customers.

Who Are You to Want More?

There are always going to people, who you share your dreams with, who ask things like, “What makes you think you can do that?”

For some they hear the doubt of others, and it’s like pouring poison on their dreams- they stop talking, stop dreaming, and let their dreams die. While others use the doubt of others who fuel their passion, and fire up their dreams.

Allow me to let you in on a little secret from God and the Universe…

You were not given a dream to change lives and impact the world without having the ability to get it done.

I get it, when you allow fear, doubt, scarcity in the drivers seat- it feels like all you want to do it drive the car, but you can’t. Taking action to remove fear from the drivers seat is even more terrifying, because then you have to meet yourself right where you are.

It’s so much easier in many way to live in a place of wanting but never having. It’s almost empowering to be able to point your finger at outside influences, as to why your life isn’t where you want it. The thing is though, if you want something bad enough you will find a way or make a way to bring your dreams to fruition.

God doesn’t give you a dream that you are not meant to pursue and attain. I get it, as coaches, consultants, entreprenuers and creative humans we have 100 brilliant ideas before breakfast. Some ideas are easy come, and easy go. While other stick. They persist. The speak to us, and niggle at our thoughts and nerves like my little brother did growing up. These dreams persist, asking “Will you follow where your brilliance leads? Will you listen to your intuition, your gut, and follow the nudges?”

It takes courage and confidence to pursue the dreams in you that won’t let up.

The good news is you don’t need to be inherently courageous or confident, you just need to act as if you are.

The difference between people who built a life with intention, and get exactly what they want is simple.

Action.

You can be a dreamer who does.

OR

You can be a dreamer who just dreams.

The road ahead of you should you decide to pursue your dreams will not be easy, but the growth, the journey, and the greatest lessons are in the struggle. The falling down and getting back up is where you grow the most, and can truly make the kind of impact you want to make.

It’s easy to look at the people who have what we want, and to lust after it, and think things like, “if I could only have what she has…” “must be nice…” “that’s nice for them, but I am nothing like them…” “Who am I to think that I can make that kind of impact…”

The thing is living life on your terms is available to each and everyone of us, if we first face down our own demons, and move forward towards our dreams in spite of the fear we may feel.

No one else is going to give you permission, you have to give yourself permission.
